The lockdown has been a challenge for Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch, like everyone else, and we’re missing the busy creative environment of Canolfan Arad Goch in Aberystwyth. But, we’re continuing to create and coming across new challenges and skills on the way, and it’s all happening online! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be hosting heaps of activities on our website and our social media pages, including releasing entire recordings of past productions, creative workshops and collaborative projects.
Usually, Canolfan Arad Goch would be buzzing with activity on a Saturday morning, with our BlAGur drama club members filling every room. But despite the pandemic, BlAGur is continuing, and we’re currently working with the members to create an animated video based on Greek mythology and Polish tales. Keep an eye on our social media pages for the final product soon! We’re also working with theatre companies in other countries to stage an online international theatre festival with panels of young people, including some of our GCSE Drama students.
Teachers, get ready, because we’ll be releasing videos of past productions online for short periods only. By now, Na, Nel! Wwww! from the year 2018 is available online. To watch the production, email firstname.lastname@example.org for a link and the password. We’ll also be putting resources and creative packs for children online soon, including colouring-in pictures based on some past productions.
So what about Twm Siôn Cati? On Monday the 27th of April, rehearsals were meant to start, but with the tour now postponed, we’ve had to come up with a ‘plan b’. We’re very grateful to the Arts Council of Wales for their continued support throughout this difficult time. As part of our contract, we’ll be continuing to employ the 5 actors and 2 freelance technicians that would have made up the Twm Siôn Cati team. This new 10-week project will be a brilliant opportunity to come up with new ideas and find new ways of presenting our work. Experimenting and discovering is a vital part of Arad Goch’s work and who knows what productions we’ll discover through this experiment! So instead of meeting on the first day in the rehearsal room, as per usual, we all met digitally and started discussing ideas for the next 10 weeks.
Keep an eye on Arad Goch’s website, our social media pages and join our mailing list by emailing email@example.com to stay informed with all of our ongoing activities. The creativity continues! And thanks to all who are joining in and are continuing to support Arad Goch’s work throughout this difficult time.
